Mr. W.T. Nottingham
One of the many amazing things to happen to us on our journey thus far, was meeting Mr W.T. Nottingham. Words cannot describe the passion for vegetables and farming that this man has. And he has graciously taken us (yes: both Brandon and I) under his wing and has guided us the ‘in’s’ and ‘out’s’ of what it means to have and run a farm - not only the growing operation but also how to sell and push your own product.
The easy part of what we do is the growing and what they often don’t tell you is that selling your produce/product is often the hardest part of this industry.
What started off as a neighborly conversation, in early March, has turned into a meeting of great minds for the rest of the season; and potentially many more to come. W.T. has given us the knowledge to grow our own fruit trees, which seemed impossible as they certainly are not an easy crop to grow. If you did not know he is famous for his peaches!
We planted and tilled and set up drip tape. We staked and tied up tomatoes. We harvested watermelons and canatloupes. We grew a few test run crops like: honey dew & carrots. He let us use his land to grow basil, sunflowers and pumpkins.
Not only did we gain a great mentor; but we also gained an amazing friend.
Our journey with Pickett’s Harbor Farms & Mr. W.T. is not over, not yet. So follow along as we take on not just our farm, but also continue to grow Pickett’s Harbor Farms as well.
